Thinking Skills
Thinking skills was introduced to replace the General Ability section in the opportunity class exam. The Thinking Skills component of the exam was written with the intention to minimize the impact of additional tutoring on the performance of students. It is also generally regarded as more difficult due to its abstract nature, while other subjects are explicitly taught as part of the curriculum during primary school, thinking skills are developed more indirectly compared to other areas like mathematical reasoning.

For such students, exam practice papers are then front-loaded with inference based questions interspersed with other question types.

Mathematical Reasoning

Successful candidates must have strong mathematical reasoning and intuition supported by robust mental math skills. Our approach to this component of the exam is to leverage the existing knowledge and skills of students to rapidly identify cross-synergies with exam question types and problems present in the opportunity class exam.
