Academic tutor careers

Join Erudite Tuition as a Academic Tutor.

Flexible hours, competitive rates, and supported one-to-one tutoring work for strong subject communicators. No formal tutoring experience is required.

Role background

Private tutoring with a support system around you.

Erudite means someone who has become academically accomplished through study, reading, and serious attention to a subject. For our tutors, that standard shows up in careful explanations, thoughtful preparation, and the ability to make a student feel capable of trying.

Since 2018, Erudite Tuition has provided one-to-one online and in-home tutoring for K-12 students. Lessons should be interactive, focused on the student's current needs, and steady enough to build confidence over time.

Academic Tutors are often high-achieving university students, graduates, researchers, or subject specialists who want flexible tutoring work with a supported Australian team around them.

What we look for

Strong applications show judgement, clarity, and care.

Successful applicants must be able to obtain a valid Australian Business Number and Working With Children Check or equivalent. These can be arranged after the application is successful.

History of academic success
Strong applicants can show high achievement in the subjects they want to teach, such as a 95+ ATAR, Band 6 or equivalent subject result, or specialist tertiary study.
Communication skills
Tutors need to break down difficult ideas into manageable pieces and adapt explanations when a student does not understand the first version.
Able to be verified
You should be able to obtain a Working With Children Check or equivalent and an Australian Business Number before you begin teaching students.
Mentoring skills
Teaching at Erudite is more than delivering content. We look for tutors who can encourage students, notice hesitation, and build confidence over time.

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Need more clarification? Email talent@eruditetuition.com.au.

Do I need tutoring experience?

No formal tutoring experience is required for the academic tutor role. Strong subject knowledge, clear communication, reliability, and the ability to mentor students matter more than having previously worked for a tutoring company.

I completed high school outside Australia. Can I still apply?

Erudite Tuition is an Australian tutoring organisation, so familiarity with the Australian school curriculum is important. Applicants who completed schooling in Australia are usually better suited to the role.

If you completed school elsewhere but have relevant experience teaching Australian students, you are still welcome to apply and explain that experience.

Where do lessons take place?

Lessons may be online or in a student's home, depending on your preference, location, and the family's needs.

For online tutoring, Erudite organises the online lesson space. For in-home tutoring, we provide student details before a trial is arranged so you can decide whether the match is practical.

How far would I need to travel?

You are never forced to accept a student. For in-home lessons, student details are confirmed with you before the first trial lesson is arranged.

Where possible, we aim to offer students who match your subjects and are within a practical travel distance from your location.

Can I choose the subjects I teach?

Yes. You choose the subjects and year levels you feel confident teaching. We expect tutors to take students only where they can provide strong academic support.

Where can I get help with my application?

For recruitment questions, email talent@eruditetuition.com.au. Please avoid calling the main support number for application questions, as that line is primarily for families.
